Chameleon: to blend in, or stand out?
"Whom are you mocking?Against whom do you open your mouth wide and stick out your tongue?Are you not children of transgression,the offspring of deceit...." (Isaiah 57:4)
False worshippers were pretty much being told off in this verse. They didn't have a real realtionship with God and they thought they could pull off the look of "Holy". Obviously they couldn't. So what gives real children of God the right to treat one another with such disrespect? Why should we be the ones acting as if we don't care? The Lost acts like that, should we?
The Bible points out how our conduct should be:
1 Timothy 4:12 "Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity."
1 Peter 1:15 "but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,"
1 Peter 2:12 "Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. "
Our conduct is supposed to set us apart. Not make us blend in with the world.
Ecclesiasties 6:8 "For what advantage has the wise man over the fool? And what does the poor man have who knows how to conduct himself before the living?"
The wise man knows not to conduct himself with foolishness.
